In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, it's easy to get caught up in the mundane and forget the wonder that surrounds us. But what if, in every moment, we had the power to uncover enchantment and beauty? The quote, "I choose to see the magic in every moment," reminds us of the profound impact our perspective can have on the way we experience life.

Seeing the Extraordinary in the Ordinary:

I met a friend downtown Detroit to work on my blog.  There was so much construction going on the I couldn't find our usual parking spot on the street outside the building. Not really knowing downtown that well, I found myself driving in circles getting caught at one red light after the other.  I'm going to be late, I thought.  

At that moment, I had a choice. I could begin to freak out and panic over getting lost, being late or simply just allow myself to get flustered. It was tempting. But instead, I chose to calmly search for public parking spots near me at the next red light.  I selected the closest one from my current location and calmly drove there.  The kind gentleman took my money and gave me a ticket. I follow his direction into an empty parking spot facing the back of an old building.  

As I got my things together and got out of the car I drew in a deep breath.  It had stopped raining and the air was fresh!  It was like inhaling a breath of magic!  Feeling awake and ready to take on todays challenges, I noticed the most beautiful gold door in front of me.  I stopped and stared at it for a moment.  As if in a trance, trying to figure out where it could lead, I heard a car door close behind me, "Oh, fancy meeting you here!"  It was my friend!  She too had driven around in circles looking for parking and ended up in the spot right next to me. 

After exchanging a quick greeting, she seemed curious and asked, "what were you looking at?"  I showed her the door and explained how it caught my attention.  I thought it was unique and beautiful and I was imagining where it could possibly lead.  She said most likely a back door to the restaurant on the other side.  Maybe.  But I suggested it was a secret door, leading to a speakeasy pub, where the prize to those who enter is an escape to an enchanting and exotic night out.  We laughed and went on our way.  

Later, as we returned to our cars, my friend said; "You know, you always see the beauty in things that others simply walk by and don't notice. That's one thing I love about you."  I was a little taken aback.  Does't everyone notice things like this?  I reminded her that it's there for anyone to see, they just have to stop, look and take notice of beauty and things around them.

I later found out that it was indeed a secret door to a speakeasy pub.  The image printed on the door is your clue to what it is called. Got any guesses?  Leave a comment below and I'll give a thumbs up if you guess correctly!

The next time you are out, try to notice something new.  This is an especially fun game to play if you are on a commute you do daily where you travel on auto pilot.  Be a tourist in your own town.  Explore, engage, discover new things.  Life is meant to be magical, you just have to want to find it!
