Where is this fairy tale winter wonderland?  This magical ribbon of ice can be found right in the middle between Montreal and Quebec City, Canada. it's approximimately a two hour drive from either location.

And a glimpse into the past shows us just how special this place is.

Domaine Enchanteur - A Tale as Old as Time

In 1973, Jean-Pierre Binette acquired a parcel of land that lay dormant and untouched. His original vision was to cultivate it into a farm, planting rows of trees, especially pines. However, the unsuitability of the land for farming led to the project's abandonment, and instead, the trees flourished into a breathtaking forest, aptly named the Lost Forest, surrounded by vast fields.

Amidst this picturesque setting, Jean-Pierre's life took an enchanting turn. A chance encounter with a beekeeper ignited a genuine passion for the profession. Soon, the farm not only produced honey but also became a haven for visitors eager to wander through the enchanted forest.

During this time, Jean-Pierre and his wife, Madeleine Courchesne, managed a seniors' residence, weaving the forest into the lives of its residents through carefully crafted trails.

This verdant land served as an expansive playground for the couple's children, offering joy in both summer and winter. However, a chilling incident occurred when one adventurous child, aspiring to skate on a frozen lake, plunged into the icy waters. This incident, though concluding without harm, marked a turning point for the family's small enterprise.

Undeterred by challenges, Jean-Pierre, an eternal dreamer, envisioned transforming the forest trails into magical skating paths. Through trial and error, he perfected his technique and equipment. The once quiet Domaine de la Forêt Perdue soon echoed with laughter as icy trails beckoned families and friends. seizing the unexpected popularity, Jean-Pierre, a born entrepreneur, melded his role as a beekeeper with the sale of honey products.

Yet, hurdles emerged as the Commission de la protection du Territoire Agricole du Québec (CTPAQ) mandated authorization, emphasizing the land's primary agricultural purpose over recreational tourism. In 1997, after obtaining the necessary approval, the winning the rights to entertain guests, the labyrinth of trails at Domaine de la Forêt Perdue unfolded.

With each passing season, the enchantment grew, and additional activities were woven into the fabric of the land. To this day, Madeleine and Jean-Pierre remain the stewards of this magical realm, and Domaine Enchanteur has emerged as one of Quebec's most sought-after winter tourist destinations. Glide through the enchanting trails at the Domaine de la Forêt Perdue, and perhaps, like an ice princess, you can experience the magic of winter outdoor ice skating!
